I started using AI during its 3.0 iteration. From the beginning, I enjoyed the experience, though it had its limitations—one of the most noticeable being its short memory. Despite that, I could see the potential and found myself excited for future developments. Since then, AI has come a long way. The integration of tools like DALL-E for generating images and web browsing capabilities have made AI even more versatile. When GPT-4.0 came out, I found that it could assist me with basic coding, opening up new possibilities in my work.
For me, AI isn’t just a tool—it’s the brainstorming phase of my creative process. It gives me the jumpstart I need to take an idea and run with it. Whether it’s writing, design, or even code, AI provides me with a solid foundation from which I can build. That said, I always keep in mind that AI—particularly ChatGPT—can have a bias. It’s an extension of the visible content on the internet, and that data isn’t without its slants. Because of this, I’m super cautious not to let AI skew my worldview, always vetting the information I get.
When I use AI, I guide it by clearly explaining the concepts or outcomes I want. It’s not about letting AI do all the work; rather, it’s a collaboration where I fully vet and restructure the content as needed. The AI might give me the rough draft, but I ensure that the final product is polished and reflective of my voice and vision.
One of my clients is actually just as excited about AI as I am. He encouraged me to incorporate AI-generated content and images into his website. While the images aren’t perfect and may be easily identified by a discerning eye, most people won’t notice or even care. That’s the beauty of AI—it provides a practical solution for small businesses and creators who may not have access to big budgets for design and content creation.
In my personal projects, AI has been a game changer. I’ve always enjoyed writing, but I’m my harshest critic, constantly questioning my style and finding mistakes that frustrate me. I used to look back at my work weeks later and cringe at the grammar and spelling errors I missed. But with AI, that’s no longer an issue. It gives me the confidence to focus on the ideas, knowing that I can rely on it to keep things polished.
Looking ahead, I’m excited about the potential for AI to play an even bigger role in my life. I envision a future where my husband and I can create solutions for everyday problems, using AI to help bring those ideas to life. This could eventually allow us to step back from the typical 9-5 grind and focus on more meaningful projects that benefit our local community. I also see AI as an invaluable tool in creating educational content for our children as they grow, providing personalized learning experiences that cater to their unique needs and interests.
AI may not be perfect, but it has transformed the way I work, think, and create. While I understand the concerns around job displacement and regulation, for me, AI has become an irreplaceable assistant that enhances, rather than replaces, the human touch in everything I do.
